Uganda cont'd....

Well, club wave came back in which was great for all types of moves and we continued to surf the flushy Nile Special in the afternoons. We also spent a bit of time surfing the piddly waves near NRE and on the silverback run, as well as a few sessions at superhole - all of which, although not very exciting, and certainly not what you assume the waves on the Nile to be like, were probably great training for Thun.

Everyone who has experienced Hairy Lemon food in the last year or so (it was definitely better before then) will be pleased to hear there is a new chef on the Island. There are still a few teething problems - such as getting portion sizes right when 40 people turn up for the weekend - but there was so much more variety to both lunch and dinner, and when the Island was quiet we had a choice of eggs in the morning, Spanish Omelette being the most popular choice. Rob (the owner) has also invested in proper crockery and meals are being served on a plate (rather than buffet style - although this didn't work so well when it got busy). All of it is being trialled and changed about a bit to get the right balance of being able to feed hoards of hungry Islanders (mainly the kayakers) whilst still ensuring the food tastes good - always a challenge on an Island with no electricity!

I'll put some photos up at some point, but need to get them from other people as having already been to the Nile once this year I didn't take a single photo - shocking!! (My computer is already overloaded with pictures of pineapples, mud huts and people surfing Nile Special and Club wave...) In the meantime, here's one from my Nile Special archives: Feb 07, in my trusty kingpin: (photo: Claire O'Hara)

Right then, back home for 2 days then off to the French Alps for 2 weeks of Mountain Biking with a big group of friends, where I have to try not to a) break myself and b) lose the paddling fitness I've built up in the last month!
